Gerry Rafferty - Right Down The Line

On Thursday nights, at Charlotte’s Jeff’s Bucket Shop, a deep, dark basement bar in a strip mall that also includes a fried chickent joint, they used to have $3 Guiness pints and hipster karaoke hosted by a fey little lad named Charlie. For a good couple months, it was our go-to Thursday spot, we being Ryan Miller, Kristin Garber and myself, often joined by Tim McManus. And more than karaokeing, it was our spot for pop performance art, Ryan and I, perched on bar stools and cooing like maddened, exotic birds all through Zevon’s “Excited Boy” or hyper-slouching our way through Phil Collins’ “I Don’t Care Anymore.” I count these among BCNC’s first performances that November and December of 2007. We were not popular there at Jeff’s Bucket Shop. Also, I’m pretty sure Gerry Rafferty’s “Right Down The Line” played between every karaoke performance.
