Places: The Parisian Catacombs — Paris, France
In August 2004, Parisian Police discovered a cinema and restaurant in a theretofore unknown cavern in the cities’ catacombs. A group of subterranean explorers had set up not only a theater that could sit 30-people, but also some annex rooms for “privacy.”

I was in a computer lab at Purdue, writing a paper for Post-Colonial Literature, when I ran across this Guardian article. And for months, it was probably the most inspiring thing in my creative life. When I read about the collection of 1950s noir films found at the site and the note reading “Do not try to find us” that police found after returning to scene the scene a few days later, the world seemed full of magic once again. My friend Sean Michaels, of Said the Gramophone, recently wrote an awesome piece on the secret society for Brick. And it is most certainly worth your time. The City of Light harbors a City of Darkness.
